Dear Viewpoints,

 

The new UK Government announced that it would review the planning system to ban what has become known as “garden grabbing”. With planning matters frequently causing my constituents a great deal of anger I am delighted that the people of England will see planning policy reformed in this way.

There are a number of reasons why I have pushed the debate about (a new model for local government) directly elected mayors to the top of the political agenda in the Capital. Firstly, I am a proud Cardiffian. I was born, raised, educated and employed here; I live here and now I have the immense privilege of representing and serving part of the city and its residents in the National Assembly. I’m passionate about the city and want to see it thrive – not just as this nation’s capital but as one of the greatest cities the UK has to offer.

I really don’t think I need to take any lessons from Cllr. Bridges (Viewpoints, August 20) or his party regarding education in the city, not after the way they’ve handled the whole schools reorganisation programme.

Dear Viewpoints,

 

I am delighted that the UK government has introduced a free schools policy where local communities can establish schools where there is demand. It is this sort of innovative thinking that harnesses the enthusiasm and professionalism which we need to see in Wales.
