Dear Viewpoints,
I am delighted that the UK government has introduced a free schools policy where local communities can establish schools where there is demand. It is this sort of innovative thinking that harnesses the enthusiasm and professionalism which we need to see in Wales.

I would like to pass on my thanks to the local councillors in Whitchurch who have helped initiate the new parking system in Whitchurch village. The problem has been a long standing one and I was very pleased by the positive response that has been generated by local traders (Whitchurch shopping booms after parking changes, Aug 3).

I am grateful to Cllr. Fenella Bowden (Viewpoints 2 August) for pointing out that the decision as to whether Cllr. Berman is leader of the council is not one in which I have a vote.
She is sadly correct as she reminds the people of Cardiff that we as residents are excluded from this important decision. Sadly, the tone of the letter suggests she enthusiastically supports this position.

Dear Editor,
While I welcome the Welsh Assembly Government’s announcement of a multi-million pound investment for improved railway stations in the Valleys (£21m revamp for rail stations, South Wales Echo, 20 July) I, like many people living in Llandaff North and Whitchurch, have become increasingly fed up with the state of the local railway station.
