Constituency Profile PDF Print E-mail

Cardiff North is one of the four Cardiff constituencies, covering Whitchurch & Tongwynlais, Gabalfa, Llandaff North, Heath & Birchgrove, Rhiwbina & Pantmawr, Llanishen & Thornhill, Pontprennau & Old St Mellons, and Lisvane.

Although the area is largely suburban the constituency benefits from a green belt to the north and areas of open space such as the Llanishen and Lisvane reservoirs. Many parts of the constituency still retain their village identities with thriving shopping areas, restaurants, pubs and churches.

The area has some notable land marks and institutions, it is home to the largest hospital in Wales at the Heath and the Velindre Cancer Trust in Whitchurch. The well known tourist attraction, Castell Coch, the Victorian fairy tale castle, is based in Tongwynlais.

There are 8 electoral wards that elect 21 county councillors (13 Conservatives, 5 Liberal Democrats and 3 Independents) to serve on Cardiff County Council.
